At Rivermead Solutions, we recognise that there are children and young people requiring therapeutic support who do not meet NHS criteria or who are on a waiting list.

The therapists at Rivermead Solutions will work with you to provide a tailored therapy package to meet the individual needs of your setting. We also provide private speech and language therapy and occupational therapy assessments for families.

Alongside assessments, we can provide CPD/Training packages to upskill staff in whole school therapy approaches, as well as upskilling parents/carers to be able to support their child’s needs at home.

Our experienced therapists are fully qualified, HCPC registered and adhere to their own regulatory governing bodies, e.g. RCSLT, RCOT, BACP.

Our priority is to provide your setting with a bespoke package for the best value possible. Whether it is one child or multiple children that you require therapeutic support for, we can help!

Your package may include:

  • One off Speech and Language Therapy (SALT) or Occupational Therapy (OT) assessment
  • Classroom observations
  • 1:1/group interventions
  • Collaborative work with class staff
  • Training for school staff
  • Workshops and support for parents

Speech and Language Therapy

Our Speech and Language Therapists can assess, diagnose and support a range of speech, language and communication difficulties. We can work with your school or family to ensure that each child/young person reaches their communication potential and to minimise the impact of speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) on learning.

Our therapists can support with a range of SLCN, such as:

  • Difficulty producing sounds (e.g. Speech Sound Disorder)
  • Difficulty understand language (receptive) and/or using language (expressive)
  • Language Disorders associated with a known condition such as Autism Spectrum Condition or Learning Difficulty
  • Social Communication difficulties
  • Developmental Language Disorder

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy can help remove barriers to learning and suggest adaptations to a child/young person’s and school’s equipment, to support accessibility to education. This can include areas of:

  • Emotional Self-regulation
  • Improvement of fine and gross motor skills
  • Self-care
  • Focus and concentration

OTs can support children with a range of diagnoses, such as ADHD, ASC, Global Development Delay, Cerebral Palsy, Sensory Processing Difficulties and more.
We can help you to set up group interventions such as Handwriting, Sensory Play, Fine and/or Gross Motor skills, or we can work 1:1 with learners to provide specialist intervention. School staff can be trained and supported to deliver these interventions long-term.

Counselling

Our counsellor is qualified to support children and young people through blocks of counselling sessions.

Signs that a child/young person might benefit from counselling:

  • Change in eating or sleeping patternsPersistent worries or sadness
  • Over critical of themselves and/or others
  • A change in their ability to concentrate at school
  • A loss of interest in hobbies and activities that they used to love
  • More irritable, argumentative and/or aggressive than they used to be
  • More tantrums or come across more restless or unsettled
  • Any signs of self-harm
  • Changes in their relationships/friendships and/or becoming more withdrawn in social situations

Many signs to look out for can be common in children and young people. However, if they persist for a few weeks continually, are causing the child distress and are having an impact on the child’s day to day life, it may be that they would benefit from some additional support through counselling.

Art Therapy

Art Therapy aims to support children/young people in processing life events and provides them with a safe space to encourage self-awareness, build confidence and to improve communication of their feelings and needs.

Art Therapy blocks run for a minimum of 6 weeks at which point the child’s progress will be reviewed and a decision will be made by the Art Therapist as to whether they feel the child/young person would benefit from further sessions.

Following Art Therapy blocks, with confidentiality in mind, the therapist will provide the school with feedback along with professional observations about the child/young person. Feedback may include: suggestions for further intervention/therapy, coping techniques and recommendations for supporting the child beyond therapy.
